Oregon Commercial Grower Tour: Any tips for new growers?

The growers each wanted to give some advice for new growers.

Fish from Wild West Growers

Look for something that’s sterilized. There’s a lot of pest problems out and a lot of that is transmitted through the soil so something I would really look for is a high quality soil that is a clean product.

Tyler from Hitman Farms

If you decide you’re gonna grow cannabis the best grow tip I can give you today is do not overwater your plants. People think they need water every day, not necessarily and especially when you first plant them. Don’t overwater your plants. That can be the easiest best tip I can give you. It’s probably the biggest mistake that people make.

Justin from House of Leaves

A lot of growing is location. You have to set up the right location or your plants are going to yield 40% less 60% less. You have to maximize your opportunity or you’re never going to maximize your potential.

Rob and Dan

Just don’t give up. Don’t give up and keep it simple. You’re gonna have bad times and then man, you’re gonna have great times.

Shawn McCreery

Less is more, always pH. That’s about it.

Ask questions. Don’t assume anything. No matter how many years you’ve been growing or how many things you’ve grown, marijuana is different. Everyone will tell you that it’s a weed and you just stick it in the ground and it’ll grow. You’re right, it will grow. Will it grow the best weed? Never. Will it grow good weed? Never. I believe that asking questions is more than important in this cannabis industry. When your plants start to wilt, when you have a discoloration, when there’s browning on the tips of the leaves, when you have yellow on the tips of the leaves what does all this stuff mean? Well the more questions you ask, literally you’re setting yourself up for success. The more that you keep to yourself, the more that you’re guessing about… well you’re guessing if you’re gonna have a good harvest or not.

Rob and Dan

Good luck. I hope you guys grow out there and have some fun, man.

Now that you’re inspired and ready to conquer the world with your own grow, I’ll leave you with some final wise words from Justin:

Justin from House of Leaves

Growing pot and not doing it right is a very, very much a waste of your money. Anybody can grow spider mites and powdery mildew. Actually, you can grow them really well cuz you don’t have to try hard.

tl;dr

Don’t overwater, pick sterile soil, ask questions, and have fun.
